Safe heels should follow these guidelines:
The heel of the shoe should be centered under the heel of the foot - not too far forward or back.
The shoe should have good support around the toes & preferably ankles as well. You should feel STABLE within your shoe, so that your foot doesn't slide around too much.
While your foot should feel stable, your shoe should not be too TIGHT. You should be able to splay out your toes in your shoe.
Stay away from platform or chunky heels.
You should be able to go onto your toes and lift your heels off the ground. If you cannot, they are too HIGH.
Our favorite brand of Heels is Burju Shoes - use the discount code NATALYAZ if you decide to invest in a pair!
Natalya recommends them for peak comfort & safety...BUT buying shoes at Ross, DSW, etc. works just as well!
Every time you sign up for a ZTHEORY workshop, we send you a SHOE-GUIDE to help you choose a pair of heels from your closet.
& if you don't have a pair at home...DON'T WORRY! You are always welcome to come to your first class in sneakers or socks. Our ZTHEORY instructors will help guide you towards choosing the right pair of Heels as you continue your dance journey with us.

ZTHEORY specializes in training dancers in foundational heels technique and stylings, however our aim is to provide dance education in equal parts "movement & mindset," therefore our course explores many aspects outside of heels technique such as developing your artistic voice, growing as a performer, and understanding yourself as a learner and artist. We believe these aspects are beneficial for dancers of all styles!
